The Whisper Of God
Mary Jo Loebig, O.C.D.
These days, as I gather together my own thoughts of writing, I see again a small yellow book from which I read often. Even the title is encouraging, namely:
The Joy of Full Surrender by Pierre de Caussade. The following is just a sample of some of the writing shared:
- The Work of Making us Holy, P.6.
- God’s Word Written on the Heart, P.33
- When the Soul Lives in God, P. 57.
- The More Excellent Way, P.59.
- Not Knowing Where the Road Will Lead, P.95.
- Songs in the Night, Chapter 1.
On the day I gathered these topics, I just happened to read and ponder the writing of St. Matthew 11, 25-30, scheduled that Sunday. St. Matthew brings out the whisper of Jesus. The message is very moving.
The Lord Speaks, Come To Me
The Lord speaks: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened. I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart. You will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
On stressful days, it behooves us to pause and take in the deep message of the Gospel. God wants to give us rest and help us find a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light. Let us not wait. This is a promise of God.
The Desire To Be With Us
I have found that God continues the desire to be with us. One of the gifts is the shape and color of the clouds each evening not far from our Monastery. Its beauty tells us that God will be there day and night. We are also told by its beauty that God will greet us in the morning. We are assured that God, the Saints, and the angels, are also with us during the darkness of the oncoming night.
With quietness and gentle color of the evening, delicate clouds high in front of the Monastery show us something very beautiful. Indeed, it is God and our acceptance that give us unusual inner peace. With this gentleness, God tells us that we will always be embraced in God’s beauty and love.
Our sole duty
is to submit ourselves
to all that God sends,
ready to do God’s will at all times
